Lighting TipsLighting Tips

- Lighting is a way of making your home look and feel more inviting, and make the best use of the space you have.
- A good general light source is needed within most rooms. This can be supplemented by task lights, such as spot lights and desk lamp. For accent lighting/ highlights the best solution would be wall lights, uplighters and picture lights.
- Hall and Staircases often need low hanging lights; flush or semi-flush ideal.
- Wall Lights are an excellent way of providing soft, low level, creating atmosphere and warmth.
- Floor lamps can be useful in providing pools of light and are an attractive way of brightening up darker areas.
- Bathroom lighting should be both practical and stylish and comply with safet regulations related to the installation.

Entrances, Halls & StaircasesEntrances, Halls & Staircases

Entrances:
Entrances should be warm and welcoming - the lights used here can often be left burning for long periods, so try and use energy saving lamps or even LED. Also you tend to bring thing in through the front door so a flush/ semi-flush fitting would be best to prevent damaging light or package

Staircases:
Staircases should be well lit areas with the light directed to define the edges of the steps. A bright pendant lamp hanging at the top of the stairs will create a shadow on the stairs highlighting each individual step. This is another area where using LED or energy saving lamps.

Landings:
These are often small areas with heavy traffic moving throught it, flush fittings or recessed downlights can maximise the space. Using a dimmer switch can be used to turn down light to lower levels for the night.

Living RoomLiving Room

- The Living room is the most used room in the entire house. It will need a variety of lighitng for the space to work best. A combination of general ceiling pendant or wall lights, as well as a table. floor or task lamp lamp can work very effectively.

- The ceiling fitting will probably be the main light source in the room. For a larger room with high ceilings, a multi-arm pendant with 5, 7, 8 or more lamps will work best and light the room most effectively. For smaller rooms a 3lt pendant is more than sufficient. Semi-flush or flush fittings are perfect for low ceilings.

- Wall lights are a good source of additional lighting, whether an up or down direction, it can create lovely mood lighting instead of always using the main fitting.

- Accent lighting hidden behind cornices, bookshelves and galssware displays (our LED strip light would be ideal for this situation). For highlighting pictures, photos, the use of picuture lights are ideal. Uplighters are perfect for bringing light to dark corners of any room. When watching tv its always good to have some soft ambient light is recommended as an aid to relaxed viewing.

Dining RoomDining Room

- Dining room lighting needs to be versatile. The main source will be directly above the table; you may also need additional lighting such as wall lights or floor lights. A rise and fall lamp provides a practical way to light the table while the pnedant isnt in use. The centre light can provide the focual point even when switched off, so something decorative like a chandelier is always a popular chioce.

- Using Dimmable fittings is always a good way of greating mood lighting by altering the brightness of the fitting. Consider chosing a mutli-armed or several single armed pendants over the table, with adjustable heights.
